The Unpainted Tablemat

The truth is, I don't like to cook....very much. But our family does like to eat, so I had to get over it. And we, as a family, embraced the importance of the family dinner table. And even though our children are grown, we still have family dinners whenever we can.

But during those busy years of child-raising, cooking a meal was both routine and special. Because I didn't particularly enjoy it, I always thought of it as a production to be accomplished. A production that needed staging....and I began to make placemats to fill that need.

I thought of my own messy family, and how we used our kitchen, and how we cleaned up....and knew an easy to clean tablemat was the ONLY answer for us. But being from a fabric background, painting was not really my forte. So I began to experiment with fabric pieces, adhesive, and floor finishes.

Our tablemats fit well with busy and MESSY families, and are equally welcoming for a formal dinner party.
